The importance of health insurance as a means to safeguard impoverished households from the financial burden of healthcare expenses, which can potentially lead to poverty, is widely acknowledged. However, many disadvantaged individuals refrain from enrolling in health insurance due to concerns about the associated costs and perceived lack of benefits. Moreover, the administration of health insurance, particularly in rural areas, presents significant challenges.
In response to the pressing need for social security among these vulnerable populations, the Central Government has implemented the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). As of March 25, 2013, the RSBY program had issued a total of 34,285,737 Smart Cards and facilitated 5,097,128 hospitalization cases.
Eligibility criteria : The scheme will extend its benefits to unorganized sector workers categorized as Below Poverty Line (BPL) and their immediate family members (comprising a family unit of five individuals). The implementing agencies will be tasked with the verification of the eligibility of unorganized sector workers and their family members who are intended to receive the scheme’s benefits.
The scheme will offer coverage to address the costs associated with hospitalization for medical and/or surgical procedures for beneficiary members. This coverage will extend up to Rs.30,000 per family per year, subject to certain limitations, in any of the network hospitals. Importantly, the benefit for the family is on a shared basis, meaning the total reimbursement of Rs.30,000 can be utilized either individually or collectively by the family members each year.
Pre-existing conditions or diseases will be included in the coverage, with only a few minimal exclusions. Additionally, health services related to surgical procedures can be provided on a day-care basis. Go through the below steps to check chiak RSBY insurance by online.
